The Emporia State Federal Credit Union sponsors a permanently endowed academic scholarship to students who will be attending Emporia State University.  The Credit Union is pleased to be able to recognize and reward member students who have demonstrated a high degree of success while engaged in a rigorous academic program of study comprised of a variety of challenging courses.

Who qualifies for this Scholarship? 
           Anyone who has been a member (in good standing) of Emporia State Federal Credit Union for at least one year prior to the term for which the application is submitted AND who will be attending Emporia State University.

Scholarship Criteria
          Other specific criteria used by the Scholarship Committee in making its selection will require that applicants:

  • give evidence of achieving a high school GPA (Grade Point Average) of 3.4 or higher, or a composite score of at least 23 on the ACT.  Official documents must accompany the application;
  • demonstrate a cumulative college/university GPA of 3.25 or higher (for those currently enrolled in higher education);
  • clearly document all extracurricular activity involvement;
  • give proof of their demonstrated leadership skills and ability, and 
  • show how they have contributed positively as a citizen of the community in which they reside

More about the Scholarship

  • Credit Union members who meet the criteria stated herein are encouraged to complete the application (see download the application below) and return it to the Emporia State Federal Credit Union by March 1.  The award will be made for the following fall and spring semesters.
  • The Scholarship Selection Commitee may give consideration to previously selected recipients; however, they shall be judged on the same criteria as all new applicants and will not be afforded special consideration.
  • To receive this award, applicants must be enrolled as an undergraduate at Emporia State University in at least 12 hours each semester.
  • This scholarship is to be awarded on an annual (two semester) basis beginning with the fall semester.
  • The Selection Committee may, if conditions warrant, award the sum of available scholarship funds to more than one recipient, thereby sharing the scholarship award.

Background:

Emporia State Federal Credit Union, originally known as the Emporia Consumers Federal Credit Union, was
granted a charter to serve a "field of membership" in July of 1937 under the provisions of an act established by
the 73rd Congress.  Since that time the credit union has continued to grow and flourish as a member-owned
credit union opened to those affiliated with ESU, surrounding school districts and most recently in January 2009,
employees and students attending Flint Hills Technical College.  Because of our commitment to education and
those involved with education, this scholarship has been established at Flint Hills Technical College.

Qualifications:

To be considered for this scholarship, candidates must meet and maintain the following criteria:

  • Must have a minimum high school or college cumulative 2.75 GPA.
  • Student enrolling for the first time or a student who has completed a technical certificate
    at FHTC and pursuing an Associate of Applied Science Degree.
  • Must be a post-secondary degree-seeking student enrolling in the fall semester.  Priority
    will be given to full-time enrollment; part-time enrollment considered.
  • Completion of Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  However, financial
    need will not be the determining factor in awarding this scholarship

Selection Procedure:

Students must complete the scholarship application process.  Applications will be reviewed and
awarded according to established criteria and the FHTC Foundation Scholarship Committee
procedures.

Scholarship recipients will be invited to attend the Emporia State Federal Credit Union Annual
Meeting which is typically held on the President's Day holiday.

Amount, Notification and Disbursement:

The amount and number of scholarships awarded will be determined by the scholarship committee.
Scholarship funds will be applied to the recipient's educational costs including tuition, fees, textbooks
and required supplies.  Payment for the second semester is contingent on satisfactory completion
of the fall semester according to scholarship criteria.  Emporia State Federal Credit Union will be
notified each semester for payment of scholarship funds.

Scholarship recipients will be notified by mail.  Upon receiving notice, the recipient will submit a letter
of appreciation and thanks to the scholarship donor.
